As President of The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), I lead a think tank whose mission is to promote public policies advocating technological innovation and digital transformation, through reports such as Digital Quality of Life and Digital Prosperity. Before founding ITIF, I was Vice President of the Progressive Policy Institute and Director of PPI’s Technology & New Economy Project. Between ITIF and PPI, I have published numerous research reports on technology and innovation policy, including on issues such as broadband telecommunications, Internet telephony, universal service, e-commerce, e-government, privacy, copyright, RFID and smart cards, health IT, intelligent transportation systems, smart grids, mobile commerce, the R&D tax credit, and growth economics. Previously, I served as the first Executive Director of the Rhode Island Economic Policy Council, a public-private partnership including as members the Governor, legislative leaders, and corporate and labor leaders. Before that I was a Project Director at the then-Congressional Office of Technology Assessment. My Ph.D. is in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989. ITIF’s work is at the cutting edge of digital and information technology transformation and policy-making, working with technologists and policy makers globally to understand the economic impact of emerging technologies. I'm excited by the opportunity to join a community shaping their future.

I am Founder of the Institute for Alternative Futures and its for-profit subsidiary, Alternative Futures Associates. I received a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Florida. As a futurist, I have applied scenarios and visioning techniques to help governments (local, state, national and international), major voluntary organizations, and corporations more wisely choose and create the futures they prefer. I have led IAF’s futures work with several Federal government agencies, the UK Economic and Social Research Council, and the World Health Organization. I've also coached many organizations, states and local communities in achieving their vision. These include futures projects for state legislatures, governors’ offices, courts in states and in communities across the US. Over 30 state court systems have done some type of futures programs, most of which have used the vision and training material developed in an IAF project that led with the National Center for State Courts and the Hawaii Research Center for Futures Studies. Also a consulting editor of the Journal of Futures Studies, and on the editorial or advisory boards of Technology Forecasting and Social Change, Foresight, Futures Research Quarterly.

Between1971-1991 I was researcher at Beit Berl Institute -- research center of Israel Labor Party. I wrote background papers outlining future policy options. I then established the independent "Strategic Educational Planning Institute" to help adults get accredited academic credentials. In 2000 this became "Center for Strategic-Futurist Thinking". I have published over 100 articles in popular and professional publications (including two in Macmillan's Encyclopedia of the Future). I have published two books – Futurizing the Jews & The Optimistic Jew. I am contributing editor for Strategic Thinking to The Futurist magazine. I am preoccupied with what I call realistic futurism – how can we formulate future visions that are achievable. I have become impatient with disembodied visions of the future. This has led me to a preoccupation with strategic thinking – or how can we get from here to there. What will be/can be our Grand Strategy. If we cannot formulate a grand strategic plan (a business plan for futurists as it were) then we have a disembodied vision. Since I believe that technology has been the greatest driver for social and cultural change since the industrial revolution I feel it is incumbent upon me to become immersed in the areas TechCast deals with.

My specialty is the futures of fitness and sports and transportation. In my studies, "Global Aging and Sports: The Impact of Aging of the World's Population on the World of Sports" and "Physical Activity Trends: Business and Policy Implications," I documented the significant role that technology plays in making people less and more fit. It contributes to lack of fitness because it has made passive home entertainment such a relatively inexpensive and fun activity. However, technological advances prevent and help people recover from sports injuries and keep them comfortable, entertained and connected as they exercise.

Over the past thirty years, I have owned and operated several successful businesses, written three business books, and been both an angel investor and venture capitalist. My current interest is in telework. I've digested over 250 studies on the topic, and interviewed dozens of Fortune 500 executives, venture capitalists who support the remote work model, and teleworkers themselves. My book on the subject, Undress For Success, has won the praise of top telework researchers. Our research has been quoted in the Washington Post, USA Today, Harvard Business Review and many other publications. Entrepreneurship is another of my passions. I've helped dozens of entrepreneurs raise millions of dollars in capital. I've lectured at over a hundred events including many at the Wharton School of Business. I've developed small business training programs for banks and Fortune 500 companies. And I even managed to convinced five major banks to provide seed grants for a business micro-loan program aimed at empowering welfare mothers. Those efforts won me a finalist position in the Inc. Entrepreneur of the Year program. TechCast's expert base and forecasting approach offers amazing insights into the future. It's an honor to play a role here.

In my present position, I provide systems engineering support for several programs at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. This involves working with the scientists, mission engineers and project managers to design new space satellite systems. A few examples of this work are: • Pre-Phase A study of the Magnetospheric Multi-Scale (MMS) project. • I also wrote and presented a paper at an AIAA conference titled “The Lunar Slingshot – An Electrically Powered Launcher.” • Another study I performed showed how a 20 meter diameter telescope could be packaged for launch and assembled in orbit by a walking robot. • Another study called Sensor Web Study could become the future weather satellite system for NOAA. I joined NASA Goddard in 1959 one month after it was established. In the early part of my 40+ years at Goddard, I designed the first flight digital telemetry system and the first reprogrammable digital computer and data handling system. Later I flew the first flight GPS system on Landsats 4 and 5. I did the preliminary design studies of several satellite missions including the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) and the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS). I was the system engineer on NASA’s Earth Observation System (EOS).

PhD in Futures Studies. University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. He has developed a Future’s Research methodology named "Imen-Delphi" (ID). The ID aims at structuring a procedure through which a group of experts could invent preferable futures, as opposed to the classical "Delphi" forecasting technique with which a group of experts is engaged in figuring out the most probable future. He's conducting various studies to enhance its reliability and validity in helping various groups shaping their future imageries. An award winning communicator and futurist, Peter’s approach to what’s next is fundamentally about application, not theory. He began his career helping companies and governments understand the implications of change driven not by slow, predictable, and well-understood forces, but by networks, individuals, and opportunity. He went on to found a digital strategy and commercial experience firm with offices in the US and Eastern Europe. In the mid-1990s, Peter served as special legislative liaison for technology and the future with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He was recruited in 1998 by a Fortune 500 to lead the integration of the company’s 21 divisions into a single customer-facing unit, and later went on to head the business development and strategy group. In 2000, fleeing the Boston winters, Peter accepted a newly created position as business unit head at a California B2B media company. When he finally recovered from that, Peter served as chief operating officer at a boutique branding consultancy, where he worked closely with the firm’s clients on understanding and leveraging environmental, technological, social, and demographic change. Peter, a former US Marine, holds graduate degrees from universities in the US and UK. He is a member of the Association of Professional Futurists.

I've spent the last 20 years in a strategic marketing and product marketing roles in communications, computation and consumer electronics. In those roles, there is a continuing need to anticipate the next step in the evolution of the market. I've spent a great deal of time developing experimental market theory that attempts to anticipate future evolution of technology. While this work does well as specifying what will happen, it does poorly at providing indication of when. I believe that Techcast is a very solid effort to quantify the timing of future events. In the work that I've done to develop predictive market modeling, timing the market is always one of the most challenging objectives due to the large number of potential variables at play.
